Plunge into Summer with Poetry!
Hello Gentle Po-Folk,
Welcome to summer! This is the time when I transition from doing school visits to summer library family presentations and the occasional teaching conference. This is a time when I try to travel less and write more. I’ll also be memorizing poetry from a few of my upcoming books, so I’ll be ready to recite them once they come out!
Today I am howling about two exciting developments in my poet life:
A New Book!
My latest picture book in rhyme, How to Tantrum Like a Champion: Ten Small Ways to Temper Big Feelings (Candlewick Press) will publish on September 10th, just in time for the start of next school year. This book, illustrated by the amazing Keisha Morris, is a perfect fit for little people dealing with big emotions. You can pre-order a personally signed copy through my hometown indie bookstore, Malaprops.
A New Booking Agent!
My school visit calendar is now in the capable hands of Allyson Hickey at Booked. I’ve already got a few things scheduled for the 2024-2025 school year in NC, SC, VA, IL, AL, MT, NY, and MA (including visits to the Chicago and Boston area). While Booked will allow me more time for my writing, I will still be in personal contact leading up to every visit. Nothing inspires a love of writing and reading more than getting to meet a real flesh-and-blood working writer. And it’s fun for me, too!
Some New Awards!
My latest book of poetry, Behold Our Magical Garden: Poems Fresh from a School Garden was included on the NCTE Notable Poetry Books list and a Bank Street Best Books of the Year list. It was also chosen as a Kansas NEA Reading Circle Recommended Title. You can buy a signed copy from Malaprops.
Be well. Do good. And . . .
Metaphors be with you!
